Rostselmash is launching a strategic project to develop a full production cycle of bevel gears. This step follows the successful localization of cylindrical gears and will be a key in creating a closed production cycle of transmission.

These parts, whose axes are beveled, are critical elements of tractor drive axles, directly responsible for the transmission of torque from the engine to the wheels.

The project is part of a strategy of consistent transition to home-produced components. After starting the assembly of manual transmissions in 2020 and launching the transmission plant in 2024, the company has put the necessary infrastructure and personnel in place to switch to more technological tasks. The current geopolitical situation and the risks associated with it necessitated the acceleration of the localization program.

To implement the project, the company has purchased ten units of high-tech metalworking equipment, including modern teeth cutting and grinding machines. Special attention is paid to quality control: test machines and a coordinate measurement machine are integrated into the production chain to simulate the operation of gear assemblies. In parallel, a unit for chemical and thermal treatment of large-capacity workpieces is being installed at the heat treatment site.

An important aspect is the transition to Russian materials. The designers of Rostselmash Scientific and Engineering Center, together with domestic iron and steel companies, are selecting steel grades with the required properties.

The project is implemented in three stages. The commissioning of main equipment is currently being completed. The next step will be to equip the production facility with purpose-designed tools and create a repair and tooling unit to make own tooling.

The new production facility is scheduled to reach its full design capacity in 2027. The design capacity will allow it to produce up to 70,000 bevel gears per year, which will provide 4.5 thousand tractors with transmission.

For Information.
Since 2019, the company has been implementing an integrated program to create its own production of transmission units for agricultural machinery. The project is developed systematically, with a consistent deepening of the cycle:

2020 – start of the assembly factory: the first series 2000 tractors with home-assembled mechanical transmission were produced; production of differential gears for series 3000 tractors began.

2021 – transition to machining: the full cycle of machining of transmission housings from Russian casting was launched.

2022-2023 – diversification of the product range: production of shafts, gears, axles, gearboxes was launched; axle assemblies (13 and 18 tons) for combines were launched; production of gear parts for the transmission of series 2000 tractors was launched.

2024 – launch of a purpose-designed facility: a new transmission production facility was commissioned; production of cylindrical gears was launched.
